Mesa, Arizona, the first Autism Certified city in America

Mesa, Arizona, the first Autism Certified city in America

In 2019, Mesa became the first ever destination to earn a city-wide autism certification through The International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards. More than just declaring Mesa “Autism Friendly,” this unique designation reflects the commitment of over 4,800 people who completed a rigorous training and continue to be recertified every two years.

Mesa has over 50 Certified Autism Centers™ (CAC). To earn this designation, a facility or organization has at least 80% of their staff highly trained, fully equipped and certified in the field of autism. Hotels, museums, attractions, and more throughout the city are now ready to serve autistic individuals and their families.

Mesa Regional Foundation for Accessibility, Inclusion and Diversity supports this important initiative and is in the process of becoming autism certified. The foundation will continue to support the certification initiative by raising funds to assist Mesa businesses by offsetting or covering the cost of becoming certified.
